Apricot pug color

The unique coat color of apricot pug dog make them a favorite among many pug lovers

It has lovely orangish – red coat color similar to that of a ripe apricot, that sets them apart from their black or fawn counterparts.

This unique hue typically ranges from a light, warm cream with subtle orange highlights to a more vibrant, orangish-red , creating a charming and eye-catching appearance.

The apricot color of pug coat is the result of recessive genes.  Both parents must carry the recessive gene for a pug to have apricot color.

Apricot pug puppy

An apricot puppy with its large expressive eyes, sun-kissed coat and fun loving, playful nature is truly captivating.

However it is important to note that the American Kennel Club AKC, the leading registry for purebred dogs in the US, recognizes only black and fawn as official color for pugs.

So an apricot pup would not be eligible for AKC registration based solely on it’s coat color.

On the other hand, Fédération Cynologique Internationale FCI , the largest international federation of kennel clubs, recognizes apricot as a separate coat color.

The Kennel Club (UK), the oldest recognized kennel club in the world,  also recognizes apricot pug.
